Speaker Ayaz Sadiq emphasized that not issuing production orders was wrong in the past and remains wrong today. In a session of the National Assembly, he expressed his regret over the non-issuance of production orders for PTI lawmakers who were arrested. This issue arose following the entry of masked men into the Parliament House, a situation that was described as shameful by members from both the government and the opposition. Khawaja Asif, the Defence Minister, also condemned the violation of the sanctity of parliament. The National Assembly unanimously passed a resolution for the formation of a 16-member committee to address the concerns regarding the smooth functioning of the house and resolve the issue of production orders.
During the session, Speaker Ayaz Sadiq recalled the refusal of production orders during PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s premiership and how Speaker Asad Qaiser had denied the request at that time. Ayaz Sadiq firmly stated that “two wrongs do not make a right” and called for a unified effort to maintain parliament’s respect. He stressed the importance of parliamentary proceedings following constitutional practices, highlighting the need for production orders to ensure that members are given a fair chance to participate, regardless of political differences.
